In Ukraine, John Herbst is known as an Ambassador of the United States (2003-2006). During
the Orange Revolution, he actively acted as a mediator of the political crisis, appealing to
conduction of free and democratic elections and prevention of violence. Today, the diplomat
with more than 30 years experience in foreign service is the Director of Atlantic Council’s
Eurasia Center, where he deals with international relations of the USA, Ukraine, Russia, Middle
East and Central Asia. He is an expert on transitional and unstable societies in transition from
conflict or civil strife.
